Getting There
The Grand Hotel Karel V is conveniently situated in the centre of Utrecht in The Netherlands. It is just 7 minutes walk from Utrecht Central Station which boasts half hourly direct rail connections to Schiphol International Airport.
There are a number of car parks in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. Locations and opening times are available on the Karel V web site. The hotel itself also has 80 chargeable parking spaces which are reserved for the guests of the hotel and restaurant.
There is also an excellent park and ride facility on the outskirts of Utrecht situated immediately adjacent to junction 17 of the A12 motorway. This parking facility is just 20 minutes from the Karel V by tram, and the cost of the tram journey is included in the daily parking fee. Read More...

Route description from Utrecht Central Station
- From the main concourse of the rail station, take the pedestrian exit to the ‘Hoog Catharijne’ shopping mall.
- Once inside the shopping mall, take the first exit on the right adjacent to the ABN Amro cash dispensers - through the Godebaldkwartier exit.
- As you leave the shopping mall, turn left at the bottom of the escalators.
- Cross the main road at the traffic lights, then turn right.
- Walk for 150 metres, after which you will find the Grand Hotel Karel V situated on your left.
Directions By Car
By Car From Amsterdam or Schiphol Airport
- From the A2 Motorway, take exit 8, marked ‘Centrum’
- At the traffic lights at the top of the exit lane, continue to ‘Centrum’
- Go straight over the next roundabout, and continue to ‘Centrum’
- After passing "Jaarbeurs", drive under the railway overpass and turn right towards ‘Centrum’
- Take the exit from the right driving lane, before you pass under the Hoog Catharijne shopping mall.
- At the second set of traffic lights, turn left towards ‘Mariaplaats’
- Follow the road around to the right, towards ‘Springweg’
- Follow signs to the ‘Springweg’ car park
- From the car park walk back to Springweg. The hotel entrance is directly opposite the Springweg Theatre.
By Car From Groningen, Amersfoort and Zwolle
- From the A28 motorway, take the exit marked ‘Centrum’ (A28)
- At the traffic lights at the end of the exit ramp, turn left
- Take the first exit, marked ‘Stadion’
- Turn right at traffic lights at the end of the exit ramp
- Continue to the next T junction, then turn left towards ‘Centrum West’
- Follow signs marked ‘Doorgaand Verkeer’
- At the traffic lights, turn right towards ‘Centrum West/Maarssen’, which takes you onto 'Catharijnesingel'
- At the 4th set of traffic lights, turn right towards ‘Mariaplaats’
- Follow the road around to the right, towards ‘Springweg’
- Follow signs to the ‘Springweg’ car park
- From the car park walk back to Springweg. The hotel entrance is directly opposite the Springweg Theatre.
By Car From The Hague and Rotterdam
- From the A12 motorway, follow directions to ‘Jaarbeurs Zuid’
- Take exit 17 marked ‘Kanaleneiland’
- At the traffic lights at the end of the exit ramp, turn towards ‘Kanaleneiland’
- At the first roundabout, turn right towards ‘Hoograven/Lunetten’
- Just before the second bridge (yellow/blue railings), turn left onto 'Jutfaseweg'
- Stay on this road to the end, then turn left (second set of traffic lights).
- Take the next turning on the right, then pass under the railway overpass towards ‘Centrum’
- At the traffic lights, turn left onto 'Catharijnesingel'
- At the 4th set of traffic lights, turn right towards ‘Mariaplaats’
- Follow the road around to the right, towards ‘Springweg’
- Follow signs to the ‘Springweg’ car park
- From the car park walk back to Springweg. The hotel entrance is directly opposite the Springweg Theatre.
