Dynamite VSP Feature Interpretation

Once a library of Dynamite VSP styles has been defined, they can be automatically applied to imported engineering data through the use of a Feature Interpretation Style.

These styles consist of simple string label masks and references to any type of Dynamite VSP style. This combined use of a range of different types of style can provide a very effective way of automating much of the process of building a visualisation model.

Feature Interpretation is based on the well established concept of using detail interpretation to automate the production of engineering drawings. Traditionally, by identifying features in a design model via a consistent string naming convention, line colours and line styles are applied automatically during import to CAD applications to help speed the process of drawing production. Taking this concept one step further, we have taken the logical step in DVSP of extending this principle to visualisation and automatically sweeping or placing full 3D object geometry along the path of imported design strings.

Using this principal, it is possible to almost fully automate the visualisation process by populating a scene with 3D geometry almost completely automatically. Used correctly in conjunction with a consistent design string labelling convention, this feature can save a huge degree of time and effort.

Feature Interpretation is used to automatically associate objects from the Dynamite VSP Object Libraries with strings from other civil design applications as part of the Dynamite VSP data import process. This means that all the basic style definitions in Dynamite VSP can now be utilised automatically, once a few standard styles such as Object Placement Styles have been predefined.

This feature works in association with the Dynamite VSP Import Panels. Feature Interpretation can optionally be activated from these panels, and direct access to this panel is provided in order to edit these styles.

Feature Interpretation Styles

Feature Interpretation Styles may be used to automatically associate imported strings with 3d visualisation model content as an integrated part of the data import process.

This works by associating pre-defined object placement, swept object, building object, rail object and road marking styles with a series of simple string label masks. This means that the placement of road markings, street furniture and even animated vehicles can now be fully automated.

When used in conjunction with automatic texture assignment and environment generation in Dynamite VSP, this feature can have you ready to start rendering within minutes of loading your design model data.
